How do peanuts respond to rotation with sweetpotato?
We have had good luck with peanuts after sweetpotato. Also, peanuts are a good rotation for sweetpotato. Some farmers are using peanuts prior to sweetpotato because peanuts are not a host for guava root-knot nematode. Cadre or Impose could be an issue for sweetpotato following peanuts. I don’t know of any pesticides that would injure peanuts that would have been used in sweetpotato.
We need to adjust the table that has vegetables and melons. We really need a category for sweetpotato alone. I’ve compared these rotations a few times, and peanuts did as well after sweetpotato as they did after cotton. We did not fumigate sweetpotato before peanuts the next year. If someone does fumigate, it is possible the fumigation in sweetpotato might help peanuts even more. Although I don’t have data suggesting that fumigation kills rhizobia, I would always inoculate peanuts (in-furrow and hopper box peat material as insurance.) We have looked at metam sodium impacts on native rhizobia and did not see an issue.
