USDA To Issue Second SDRP Payment, Extends Deadline

Alabama peanut farmers who experienced weather-related losses in 2023 and 2024 have some
important updates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).USDA recently announced that additional funding is on the way through the Supplemental
Disaster Relief Program (SDRP). Approved farmers will automatically be awarded an additional
35% of calculated SDRP. This will double the original program payment, bringing the payment
factor to an overall 70%.
This is welcomed news for many Alabama growers who have faced challenging conditions,
including drought and extreme weather over the past two seasons.Stage 1 remains available for farmers who received crop insurance or NAP payments for
qualifying losses.
Stage 2 covers additional losses not included in Stage 1, such as shallow losses or quality issues.
Eligible losses must be the result of natural disasters from 2023 or 2024. These include wildfires,
hurricanes, floods, derechos, excessive heat, tornadoes, winter storms, freeze (including a polar
vortex), smoke exposure, excessive moisture, qualifying drought and related conditions.
Eligibility for drought-related losses is tied to counties that experienced severe drought (D2) for
at least eight consecutive weeks or extreme drought (D3) or higher.
If you believe you qualify or need to make updates to your application, reach out to your local
Farm Service Agency (FSA) office as soon as possible. The application deadline has been
extended to Aug. 12. ∆
